So I was poking around my 94.5 trying to find out why it runs so crappy and I found a leak Im not sure how to fix.
When you are standing in front of the truck looking at the turbo.....theres another rusty (turbo is silver) looking round thing that bolts to the turbo.
It has 4 bolts with funny heads holding it on to turbo , pedastel etc.
One bolt is either broken or missing as I cant see the head but I can see black exhaust soot around the hole.
How hard is it to unhook the turbo etc and take right off so I can change that bolt.
The other 3 bolts look like they have been there for 50 years and arent going to come loose very easy?
That rusty thing sounds like it might be your turbo exhaust housing. It gets so hot it can get some surface rust after the paint burns off. You can't remove it from the turbo while it's installed because of the uppipes, IIRC from doing my housing swap once. You have to remove the pedestal with the turbo mounted on it, then remove the housing. You can probably replace the bolt without removing anything if it's missing. But if the head is broken off I'd do all I could to try and remove what's left of the bolt first. If you can spray some PB blaster in the hole it might penetrate enough for you to turn it with whatever you can grab it with, or turn it with. There is pedestal removal info on the site if you search, or others will chime in with a linky. Maybe try to replace all the bolts while you're at it, and use anti-sieze on the threads too.
good call chris. vinford do you have both ps running?
kurt
Ive got 1 running crappy and one doesnt run.
I tryed to put a bolt in that hole and it was turning real hard so I quit.
The bolt I was using was a fine thread?
