On the 87 6.9 t19, is it feasable to convert to 4wheel drive. Right now i am really ticked, just fixed my drive way, but it didnt pack in well enought yet. Truck wont go 1/4 way to highway. Caravan barely made it out, wife wont let me use the 4x4 jimmy, its "HER" car..... DANGIT!!!!!
If you are going to 4x4, now would be a great opportunity to install a zf 5 speed overdrive tranny and 4x4 out of a 87-up diesel f250 or 350. The 4x4 is nice, and the overdrive is even nicer.
ok, lets say i came across a possible donor truck. BUT this donor is a 7.3 PS W/Auto trans and manual transfer case. Is this feasable? i dont want the auto, just the 4x

You'll need a 4wd transmission to use the x-case.
You could go with an older divorced NP 205 out of a Ford and use your transmission with custom drivelines. The trick thing to do is set the x-case up in the truck so the front and rear driveline are the same length. Have 3 of them made/modified and then you have a spare that will fit either end.
Make sure the x-case is a 205 and not some weird Dana 24, old Borg Warner or some other odd-ball.
The Ford frontends are better but you could go with a Dodge, GM, International or Jeep Dana 44 or 60 and one of those brand's divorced 205s also. It'd make people wonder why your Ford has the pumpkin on the wrong side.
NOW don't take this the wrong way BUT if you have to ask if this CAN be done it's probably not something you're going to want to take on. It is most assuredly NOT a bolt-in job.
hey dodge i knew it wouldnt be a easy swap, i have access to a Victor wrench, and all the Lincolon Glue i could ever need, lots of fab experience, and like to learn how to do new stuff. + im only 28, and like to have an arsenal of things i can do, ya never know whan ya may need to do in life, so i want to know how to do it all.

Have at 'er then. That's really all there is to it. Cutting, fabing and welding.
I would say that this is the place for the fabricators tendency to "over build" to kick in. You really can't make this stuff too stout.
tell me about over doing it.i found some 1/4" steel plate today at work im thinking about welding it on my frame to stiffen it up.why you ask?i have no idea i like things to be overbuilt i guess.

I'm still going to ask unless you plan on mounting a wrecker body or making a tough truck about the only reasons I can see.
Dodge why is the ford front tougher than the dodge frontend or is it the draglink steering components etc....
ya never know what i may end up doing a wrecker bed would make me some money good thinkin starmilt.hmm and i think i have a friend with an extra one too.........
The Ford fronends are High-pinion and Dodge and Chevy are low-pinion (coast side).
The Ford pinion gear goes into the HIGH side of the ring gear (drive side) which is better and stronger for a FRONT application.
It also reduces the driveline angles.
Ford also uses a track bar on the Dana 60s in the '86 or so and up. I think the addition of that track bar is a highly UNDERATED component. I've never driven a GM or Dodge with a Dana 60 that tracks as straight.
You mean there is something about a ford that is better than a dodge hmmm.
I knew about the track bar and steering diferances but I hadn't thought about the high pinion verses low but as always you are 100% CORRECT.
