I'm wanting to get some input on doing some trans upgrades. I've got 3 options, transgo HD2, Tugger, or a vb from BTS. Are there any benefits to changing the vb verses installing a shift kit? If I do use one of the transgo kits, should I also get a sonnax valve? I tow 10K pretty regularly(about 2 or 3 times a month). I'm also doing this upgrade in preparation for DP Tuner. I'll never be sled pulling or drag racing(spooled launch), but I want my truck to run good, pull good, and last a very long time.
Thanks
Id go with the BTS VB, but it would be easier for me to pop in a new VB then modify one with the transgo kit. Plus if you ever get a BTS trans I believe you get some credit for the VB if its already in there.
If you don't mind modding the valve body yourself save some money and get the Transgo. If you do not feel comfortable doing the drilling and other work involved I would say get the BTS. I just did the Tugger on my truck it was not a bad job and I am very happy with it (I will be even happier where I get my chip back from Tony)....
BTS total package Changing the v/b wont do anything for your stock converter.Might make the trany feel a little better though! you said it- I want my truck to run good, pull good, and last a very long time. You wont be disappointed going to brian.
I not too worried about the install if I do decide to use transgo. If the transgo does the same thing as vb does, then I'll definitely use transgo and save some $$$. I'm gonna call Jody after Christmas and ask his opinion. If I use transgo, should I also install a sonnax valve? I will get a BTS trans when mine crapps out, but my truck only has 45K on it. Other than the rattling converter everything is great.
Thanks
Huck, I did the HD2 and called it a day. I like how it shifts. No sonnex for me. I am just cruising around waiting on my diode disaster. It may never happen for all I know.
I think i have a sonnex valve will have to look.If i do its cheap pm me!
Let me know if you still have it. I may be interested, if it's something that I need to do.

Yeah Mike, I've read your install write up several times. Good job btw. I was hoping that you and/or Joe would chime in. I would like to have everyone's take on this.
Thanks
The TransGo does more than just the VB. I think it's worth saving the bucks if you want to learn how your tranny works, as long as you're somewhat mechanically inclined. It's not a walk in the park, but it ain't too difficult either. I'd do it the same way if I have to do it again.

Well, it looks like I'll be ordering from transgo. I believe I can get through the install alright. Now, for my next question. Where is the best place to get a transgo kit? Thanks
Joe I think you have the skills to do the Transgo or the Tugger kit and save your self a couple of hundred dollars. BTS is worth the money for me not to have to fool with modifing the VB.
I just want to clarify my post. I dont have to tools or a place at the moment to do the trans go kit or else I would do it and save the money if I were you.
You said you will get a BTS when your trans craps out. Brian will credit you for the BTS-VB when you get the trans done. That is one reason I went with the BTS-VB. I am next to AR, so I will get a BTS trans when I need one. I think I will need one soon.
If I lived on the West cost, I think I would go with the other.
Not that this site hasn't helped me with everything i,ve done to my truck and had great help and support from everybody here but i,m like Tim the Tool Man when it gets tricky, BTS VB for me soon although Jody recommended the J Wood VB in our lastest E-Mail convo, we'll see.
