hey guys, yep im new here! gotta friend maybe needing some help! his truck is a 2000 (i think, will check) has an idle issue, just started this within the past, we're thinking that its the maf! also, we were cruising down the hwy today, was doing right at 45-50 mph, welp, we were coming to a red light, the rpm's wouldnt go down when he hit the brakes, we figured the throttle was stuck somehow! we got to where we were going, took a look at the cable, there was quiet a bit of slack in the throttle cable, how exactly do u adjust the cable? has anyone else has an issue like this? also, they have a recall on the truck, im not exactly sure as to what it it, but he said something pertaining to the speed/accelerator! anybody heard of this recall, if so, what did they do to ur truck? thanks guys for info in advance, also his truck is a 4.6 ltr 4X4 ext. cab, if that helps any, sorry this was so long! thanks, carl!
Welcome to the site! second sounds like the idle prob is the idle air control valve just behind the throttle body on the back of the motor, kind of a pain to get to, everyone will tel you to clean it and replace i say you go through that trouble to get it off just put a new one on its about 30 bucks, the throttle things something else, if it has been recalled take it to the dealer and they should fix it for no charge i have never had a problem with my throttle

There was a recall on these trucks for the cruise control speed/accelerator switch. It actually plugs into the brake master cylinder and is part of the system for the cruise that turns it off when you hit the brakes. I don't know the whole system, but this is REALLY important. If you haven't had the dealer replace it - UNPLUG IT NOW. These switches have been known to start engine fires. Do a quick search on this site or the web and you can find info on the carnage they cause. It is a quick 10 minute thing at the dealer, they change out the wiring right there and you are on the road again. But leaving it is just asking for trouble.
good luck on the idle and all - sounds like it could use a good cleaning. Seems odd that there would be slack in the cable of it is sticking open?!

Sounds like maybe the IAC is bad and sticking open. On the back of the throttle body is the IAC, unplug it and take it for a drive to see if the throttle is still "sticking"
As far as the cable slack goes, there is supposed to be quite a bit of slack in the cable and there is no adjustment.
The recall you are probably refering to is a EXTREMELY important recall. What you need to do is look under the hood of your truck and look at the master cylinder. At the end of the master cylinder there is a small sensor. The wiring going to the sensor should have a blue sticker wrapped around it. If it doesnt have the sticker then you need to unplug that sensor immediatly until you can go to the dealer to have the recall installed.
Basically what the recall prevents is a major engine fire. That sensor(switch) on the end of the master cylinder has constant power sent to it no matter if the ignition is off or not. On some of those sensors the inner seal fails, allowing brake fluid to leak into the electrical connection. Which causes the switch to short and set the brake fluid on fire.
awesome thanks for the help to all of u! i have sent my friend the link to this page, so he can read it! he was going to take his truck in today for the recall, but im not sure if he did! thanks for the help! will let u guys know something soon, i hope!
