My engine stalls when coming to a stop after driving on the freeway. It will restart after some coaxing but not right away. This dosent happen on city roads just the freeway. It has a totally stock 292 in it. anybody have any ideas?
Could also be the idle mixture adjustment is off. That would explain the hard starting after. Do you gotta floor it to get her going or just crank the snot out of her? Could be loading up with fuel. Hope this helps.
Once it stalls I have to crank the crap out of it to start. If I throw it in neutral and rev the **** out of it while coasting to the stop then it won't stall.
Sounds like a fuel issue, but also might a coil breakdown due to heat buildup from the hiway drive. I would like to see the fuel flow into a bottle at the carb. If it looked healthy I would turn to the coil next.
On rare occasions I have seen the fuel filter plug up and stall the engine and when the pressure bleeds off the truck will start again as if nothing were wrong. And sometimes if you crank the snot out of it the junk in the filter will move around enough to let it start. Could be fuel pump breaking down only when its hot in which case you would have to check fuel flow into bottle when it quits running.
