Front Lockers

What front differential locker do you think is the best?.. I dont do heavy offroading,i just want if need to be able to lock both front wheels and have them both turn and not the wheel with the least amount of traction to turn.

Give Chip a call at OX LOCKER. I have been speaking with him along with another buddy of mine. Their Dana 60 version will work but there could be an issue with the fork engaging the locker. IF we give him enough intrest they may start more R&D to provide SD owners a sure thing for the front diff. I may consider working out with him a group purchase to spur his development plan.

I have talked to an ex-employee that did this install on a SD and the carrier fits no issue, it's just the forks are too short to engage the locker.

There are fewer rated for front use. If I were to put in a front carrier, I would pick one of the selectables. So it would be ARB unless Detroit's e-locker will work on my front end.

I have the ARB in mine. Works great but they are not cheap.

With the hubs unlocked will the locker still lock both axles together?

The locker is always locked unless there is enough difference in torque that they have to disengage. Regardless of the hubs position, but probably needs input torque to lock.

Yes but your wheels are disconnected. The hubs will lock the wheels to the axles.

If your hubs are unlocked it doesn't matter what differential you have. I would go with either an E-locker or TrueTrac in the front.

Just curious, why doesn't anyone make a limited slip clutch type differential for front applications?

Because the clutch type suck, they wear out. The TrueTrac is the best LS differential you can get and its not horribly priced. I have one to install in my rear differential next week when I put in my 4.30s.

I just was looking the the TrueTrac. It doesn't look like they make one for the newer front ends. All I can find is 1999 and down.

I'd be interested if you're keeping count.

I went with Detroit Lockers (can't remember if it was the Truetrac or Suretrac) front & rear on my F-250.
Also upgraded to Warn hubs and put a fresh set of 4.56 gears in.

So far, so good.
