Want to see what everyone is running in their manual trans Rangers? Currently I have Royal Purple Synchromax in my 06. I'm not for sure if it's the best though. It seems like I have a synch problem. Just doesn't want to go into gear, most of the time downshifting. Since I changed the factory fluid out at 5k don't know if it's the fluid or the trans. Can't remember how the factory fluid acted.
It's tolerable during the summer but with this cold weather it's a pain. This morning being at 2 degrees was like a stick in mud shifting wise. I do like the stiff feeling RP offers though when it doesn't grind. I have about 25k on the fluid 30k on the truck. I'm going to replace it this spring. I know it calls for Mercon.. maybe M1 syntethic atf? Not going through the hassle with Amsoil, possibly Royal Purple or Redline though.
i use pennzoil syncromesh fluid. its available at autozone for around 7 bucks a qt (i think, its been a year since ive switched to this oil) i have a similsr issue, but ive had it long before i went to a different oil. my 5th to 4rth and 3rd to 2nd downshifts are difficult, no problem from 4 to 3. i simply "blip" the throttle between downshifts while the clutch is pushed in and it drops right into gear. probly a syncro problem.
that royal purple stuff is probly the best fluid you could put in it. if youre having syncro issues (or any other problem for that matter) no "magic" oil is going to fix it.
Mine had a LOT of metal contamination in it when I bought it at 150,000 miles (250,000 kms ) , I changed it twice with regular Mercon/DexronIII and twice with Mobil 1 Synthetic Dexron/Mercon . It was notchy shifting at first as it got clean and after the last two changes it is quite smooth now. That is in 15,000 km or 9,000 miles.

syncromesh I think from Pennzoil is better.
My 240K+ M50D got smoother shifts when I went with M1 Synthetic ATF and a quart of syncromesh.
It seems the more I read most have had better shifts with blends. Thinking about 1/2 RP's Max ATF and 1/2 Synchromax with 3oz of Lubeguard Red. Today at 24 degrees had no problems.
