Is something wrong with my front axle?

I have 97 F250 4X4: I used 4H in snow, and when I exceeded 30-40 mph, the front end became extremely floaty. 4H became a safety issue and I returned to 2 wheel drive. There was snow on the ground and I wasn't driving or turning on pavement. At speeds below 30 mph 4H seems to work fine. Is there a problem my front axle or is it the snow? It's odd as I've used 4H in snow many times before, and it's alway been very solid. My hubs are automatic. Thanks

That is certainly odd. The only thing I can think of is maybe one of the hubs isn't locking all the way?

look at the bushings on the ttb on the front axle. you can see the condition of them from the passengerside wheelwell. look at the bolts where the front axle pivots. it should look centered in the bushing. sounds simmilar to what i experienced when mine were wore out.

Could also be an alignment issue....the bushings will cause the same feeling. Ball joints, tie rods should also be checked.Have someone drive the truck and watch what the front end does under acceleration in 4h or 4l.
Watch if it toes in or goes strait
