On my truck i have 33 inch tires on 16.5 rims. I'm having a problem finding used tires for it because alls i can find is 16 inch tires and i only need one tire for my truck for inspection. Some people are telling me to buy 16 inch rims and tires to get rid of this problem. others tell me to just buy new 16.5 tires. if i get new tires im planning on getting 35 inch ones. would u stick to the 16.5's or get 16 inch tires?
16.5 are not that hard to find. It seems that more than a few manufactures make a street radial but mud tire is a little more limited. I can find them no problem. Getting expensive though....like everything else.
I was kindof despairing over the lack of selection in 16" tire sizes and tread patterns, as well as the higher cost. IE BFG MT's in 35x12.5 just came out in 16" whereas 15" and 16.5" have been around for awhile, and are $50 a piece less expensive. There aren't very many tires available for 16" wider than 12.5, or over 33" tall. 315/75R16's are 35x12.5, 285/75R16 or 305/70R16 are 33x11.5 and 33x12 respectively if there are only metric sizes on the tread pattern you want.
The only reason I was set on 16" tires was the tapered bead on a 16.5 would make it easier to knock the tire off the rim when aired down in sand. OTW I would have gotten the 16.5's cuz they are cheaper and are available in wider sizes. I guess my point is that unless you want to air down really low for sand or rockcrawling then keep the 16.5's, they aren't obselete in the off-road tire market.
