Yesterday my 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter had a birthday party to go to for a friend at a "wave pool". It's about an hour drive to the city with the pool and my wife offered to drive some of the kids down in her Suburban.
Her Sub. has a 6 inch lift and 35" mud tires on it so it doesn't get the best gas mileage.
I asked her to call and see how many kids were going so we could take one of the diesel trucks instead. Turns out I only needed to be able to take two kids with us so we took my '94 IDI turbo CrewCab. Obviously I had to take my wife and 2 and 3 year olds too so I only had room for two more kids in the truck.
An argument insued between the kids as to who had to ride in the other family's minivan and who got to ride in my truck.
My 8 year old claimed his birth-right to ride with us. My daughter didn't really have a problem riding with the other girls in the van so we took the family's oldest son, I think he was 10 or so. He has ADD and has siesures as well but I don't/didn't care so he rode with us, talking a million miles a minute all the way. I think he's a pretty cool kid but my son, who usually can match anybody word-for-word, couldn't hardly get a word in edge-wise.
Maybe one reason I like this kid is he said my truck was the "coolest truck ever". That COULD be a determining factor???? Actually I liked him before he said that.
He really liked the straight-pipe exhaust.
His Dad has a '90s short bed, ext. cab, 4wd F-150 so it's not like there's a ton of difference, to a kid, but he liked the sound and size I guess.
Anyway, it was dark when we left the pool so we just took our own kids home which disappointed a lot of the other kids that were arguing over who would ride back with us.
I guess I'll have to get a truck like Ford MegaCab's. My wife saw a picture of it in his header while I was on here one time and fell in love with it.
If you stay with it you can eventually get it back together may be easier to buy a little cheap runaround car to drive while you are ressurecting it. I know that wouldn't be cool though. My son all through high school worked hard and spent every dime on lifts gears and tires and motors and trannys he's a chevy nut dont know where that came from finally on the way to work one day his truck broke he came home got his motorcycle and left again only 1200 miles on his bike the oil cooler line came off it is located under the motor so he didn't notice the oil coming out before the light came on and thats too late.
He had an extremly bad day when he came home that evening he decided it might be cheaper to make payments on a new one. So now he still spends most of what he makes on payments insurance and whats left on his old trucks but when he tears one up it is no longer an emergency He may just not get to make the next bog or river run.
That'd be a good run-around truck, I don't mean this as a slam but they make good "cars" with a big trunk. I like that body style the best out of the '73-up GM trucks.
