hey everyone I have a problem whith my 1992 f150 starting. I have reason to believe it is the inertia switch. Does annyone know how to reset it anny information would be great thanks alot and God bless.
If you located it already, there is a recessed reset button on the top of it. My '90 was located on the firewall under the drivers side dash. Squarish black box aprox. 2" x 3".
The reason I think it is the inertia switch is I think the fuel pump is new and and it isnt coming on so its that or another ellectric problem anny other ideas. thaks this is a great forum.
The inertia switch might be tripped or failed, but unless you have been in an accident lately it is not the most likely problem.
As I recently learned, the fuel pump relay can stick open in cold weather from frozen condesate, or it's contacts can become corroded. The connections to the fuel pump can also corrode.
The relay for the computer can also corrode and that would not let the fuel pump run. The fuel pump that you think is "new" can also be bad.
If I had this problem, I would start by having an assistant to turn the ignition on and off while I held the computer relay and the fuel pump relay. You can feel these click as they are energized. That would quickly start eliminating some of the likely problem components.
Good Luck Frank
yes it does soury i'm not being specific. I'll tell you what happend in order. I started having brake trouble so I stopped driving it for a couple of days because I was busy with work. It didnt start when I tride and the fuel pump didnt come on. It was rainny the couple of days I let it sit so I sprayed WD40 on the connections to get the water out that didnt work. then we put starter fluid in the air intake to see if it had spark it did. and now im looking for the inertia switch.
Stupid question but what one is the fuel pump relay and the computer relay.
