Air Springs

Anyone ever put air springs on one of these trucks? I had been planning on swapping some F-250 leafs into my F-100 to help get it ready for some towing, but lately I've thought adding some air springs might be a better way to go, since I could let the air out for a softer ride when I didn't need the extra capacity. Any thoughts?

Just,
__how much weight are you planning on towing??

Does your truck still have it's stock F-100 breaks?

_Towing is rated according to your trucks breaking weight/load capacity.
Springs/Suspension are just a passive part to this equation.

So, if you have addressed the breaks.
I would go with the air-springs, they can provide a more stable towing enviroment.
They also can inprove everyday driving as well.

P.S. with a 460 under there, I'd beef up the front suspension too.

I figure it will be around 5,000 lbs (my Ranger on a car hauler). It probably won't be any more than once or twice, but it will be a pretty good distance (Atlanta area to Dallas area). All highway, and no significant grades.

The truck is actually with my mechanic/friend until I get back from Iraq in a few months. He's building up the engine and transmission for me while I'm gone, but that's another thread entirely. He's also putting in an F350 booster and master cylinder, and from there we'll determine whether or not to do the Thunderbird calipers.

Would the front coils and/or sway bar from an F250 bolt right in, or would I have to swap out the whole suspension to go that route?

This,
__seems to be almost a little off the point.

From what I can figure you want to use a F-100 for a 250'HD job.
Don't waste time swapping heavyduty parts onto a liteweight chassie. Locate a good 250' chassie, put the 350' booster'n'master-cyl on it.
Then move your truck's body on. This will take about same time, but more effort.
But you will be more happy with the end results.

Well, the truck's primary duty will end up being a weekend toy to hot rod around in, take to the drag strip, just tinker around with, etc... (Not an all out race vehicle by any means, just something fun to mess around in that can tow a little bit on the few occasions I need it to.) That's a big part of the reason I want to do the air springs, rather than the heavy duty leafs. The upgraded brakes will be good to have in all cases. I may pick up a cheap little bass boat or something once I'm back in Texas, but I could probably even pull that with my Ranger if I needed to.

A ranger on a carhauler wont have a lot of tounge weight air springs should be all you need may not even need that.

Well,
__if that is your wish,
then I would go with the air springs with the 350' booster+mastercylinder.
That will be the less intrusive & a time saver.
