having hard cold starting this winter change glow plugs and relay, now runs rough and surges, slow acceleration like its not getting enogh air or fuel checked hoses and vacuum lines. ran better before i change the glow plugs.
Make sure the UVCH connectors are tight. Also be sure the 42 pin connector that is right above driver side valve cover is also tight. Also make sure that all 6 boots are tight. Plus a bump for some more ideas.
Edit: Excuse my manners I forgot to welcome you to FTE, so Welcome to .
how are your connections going to valve covers and how did the harness look under the cover?did you make sure wires were not touching pushrods etc... just a thought maybe a wire has come loose? how tight did you tighten your plugs?Someone else will chime in soon with more, and welcome to FTE

your six boots are air box to turbo(two boots) and four intercooler boots. Wich the Intercooler boots would be a real good place to look
thanks guys for your help, i took the drivers side valve cover back off checked wires were all on but the one in the very back i dont think i pushed it on all of the way. the truck so far will start better, on reassembly found that the 2nd rubber boot from the air box has about a 4'' tear in the bottom by the hose clamp will this affect the performance of my truck still lacking in power.

If this is one of the hoses going from the airbox to the turbo then dont drive your truck until you get it fixed. You dont want to dust that turbo.
I dont think your talking about the intercooler boots. Is it a black or blue boot?
yes, it is the boot that goes to the turbo and that plastic thing, i bought a new boot and replaced it. its running smoother but is still lacking in power. was wondering what the sensor is for that is in the air box? does it detect air temp? i am not too sure exactly what it is for or what it does, but was thinking maybe that would make the truck run bad if it were not functioning correctly or not at all. i ask this question because i disconnected it when i change the glow plugs not to sure if i touched the wires comming out of it or if that matters. i also tried to disconnect the map sensor but could not get it apart so i just worked around it was'nt really in the way. not to sure where all the vacum lines are did check some of them but on the drivers side i was sitting inside the engine compartment wher the battery and air box is at and was standing on some power steering hoses is there any vacum lines down there i could have broke? dont want to take it to a dealer but might have to thanks for all the help, its been very usefull.
The sensor your talking about in the airbox is the air intake temp sensor. Unless your talking about the filter minder thing. It wont hurt your performance if its not working. Have you taken the boot off from where the CCV vent comes into the air intake line and the turbo to inspect the turbo wheel?
