I have searched and searched, several websites, and have had no luck. I cannot find my haynes manual and I need to know how to change my power steering pump. I am sure I can figure it out by looking at it, but I would like to be sure. If anyone knows a link to a how to for a 97, 3.0 I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the help, John
look at the autozone website they have a DIY section should be able to find info there.
really it is pretty simple, remove the belt then basically as I recall drain the fluid (lower line and then a suction device) unbolt I thnk 3 bolts been a while since Ive done it, cant remember if the belt drive pully comes with it or not. anyhow when on you are supposed to fill turn the wheels to max crank w/o starting for like 20 seconds. Now good time to flush they system while its apart plug lower line and then do as above until clean fluid shows up. Kinda abbreviated but pretty close as I recall.
It is really easy. Disconnect hoses (and spill some old ATF), loosen belt, remove belt, unscres 3 bolts PS mout is held with, and pull PS pump with braket...
then with puller pull out pulley, uscrew 3 bolts holding PS pump.... New pump may be w/o reservouar for ATF.... so carefully pull made of plastic reservouar.... no tools required. They may damage reservouar. Install reservouar with new o-rings, and assebly all. If you see hoses cracked, leaking... change them too.
In some models it is difficult to remove the mounting brackets before pressing the pulley from the pump shaft. It is 'possible', but in some cases it might make sense to pull the pulley before removing the brackets. Just sayin'...
And, when you remove the high pressure side from the pump body, you should replace the seals inside the fitting. The hose will feel loose in the fitting when you re-install it, and tighten the fitting. That is normal. But will possibly leak if you don't replace the O-ring.
