installing win xp / new mobo problem question

installing win xp / new mobo problem question
Bought a new mobo, ram, cpu, and SATA hard drive
Installed it, fired it up It posts but will not boot from my old IDE dvd rom (windows disk)
the only drives hooked up are my old IDE dvdrom and the SATA Hard drive. The bios see's both devices and I have the dvdrom set as the 1st boot device. When the thing should boot to the dvdrom, all I get is a blinking cursor.
The mobo is an asus p5qE
I'm guessing that I need a new dvd rom.
I did find this thread on an asus forum, which isn't my exact situation, ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Cannot install OS from IDE DVD
Anyone else have any idea's?
