coolant problem?

How many gallons total do you guys put in your radiatior.
When i filled my truck up after the cam swap it took 2 1/4 gallons of 50/50 mix. The stuff was junk so i drained it, pulled my heater core, flushed it out, then went to fill the radiatior back up. I dont think i even got a whole gallon of coolant+water in before it was full. I started the truck and ran it for about 2 min and shut it down and let it cool off. When i looked it was still full. Whats the deal?

This is what i would do! Remove the radiator cap install a pressure tester pump it up to 10psi wait 30 seconds.Remove devise look into radiator if its still full then remove antifreeze then start over.

It depends on the cooling system you have....
Capacity's (in quarts) are available on this site.

Pull the heater hose off the intake manifold, then fill it up.
This is not blocked by the closed thermostat.
At least then your block and waterpump will not be airbound.

i pulled the heater hose off and heard a big whoosh, then got another gallon or so in, so i think im good. Took the truck for a test drive and steam went everywhere, i cracked the heater hose when i pulled it off.

Ooops!

Maybe you ought to change both heater hoses if they're so brittle or soft that it was damaged just removing it?

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you.

Please remember to check that it's full (cold) and there is still some left in the reservoir over the next few days as more air may "burp" out of the system.
