Well it is getting very cold up here in Michigan and the 2000 V10 F250 does not want to start. It turns over fine but the stumbles and stalls or tries to stall. It then will run fine. If it does stall and I re start it it runs fine. It also runs fine if it stumbles and then settles down. Is there a cold start sensor in this truck?
I have a '00 Ex with the V10, and I too was having cold starting issues. I installed a Besco Alaska Pad on my oil sump, and have been leaving it plugged in overnight. Since then, the beast starts up much more smoothly, and is at operating temperature in a fraction of the time.
The heating element was about $35 at the local parts store, and you will need a tube of high temp RTV silicone to install it. Hope this helps.
Thanks guys for the info. I thought that it might be the IAC. Just did not know where it was located. Pictures help. I will look at it this week. It does idle good once started and once warmed up.
Just a follow up question... I've read lots of posts about cleaning/replacing the IAC...
What is it? What are other symptoms of problems with it?
I'm not having anything right now, but would rather know what to look at if (when) I do have problems without wasting a full day staring at the engine.
basicly it controls to a large degree ur vehicles idle speed.. i problem with a IAC will usualy be a "lopping" or uneven idle speed..
had 1 in my 99 V10 go and it would lope so bad at intersections it sounded like a race car engine with a massive lift cam.. sounded good but annoying as hell to drive.
I just changed my IAC after having the same problem and it runs perfectly now. What ever you do, don't buy an Auto Zone IAC, as it is half plastic and poorly made. NAPA has a decent one, if buying locally, or get it from FTEPARTSGUY.com
Good to know Cardiac69. I plan on fixing it this weekend as it has warmed up to the 50's. I almost went to AutoZone. I will try Murrys auto and see what they have.
After doing some searches I found that most people just clean the IAC with spray intake cleaner. I cleaned the one on my 97 f150 every couple of years. It would get a white fuzz on the air valve. When cleaned it defiantly would idle better. The one on the f150 4.6 was very easy to get to. The one on the V10 is on the back side of the throttle body. If we ever get a break in the weather I will clean mine and see if that cures the problem>
Looks like an oldie but goodie resurfaces, looks like I'll be cleaning my IAC this weekend, now that the temps have gotten below 30, I'm getting the starting stumble, then re-starts and everything is fine.
