Under Hood Felt Pad?
Did the '80-'86 generation of Ford trucks come with an under hood felt or insulation pad?
Mine doesn't, but now I also bought my truck used. What are the advantages or disadvantages to having one?

Mine has one, but some of the clips are gone and it sags alittle. And it looks dusty and smells nasty...Come to think of it, I just might remove it.
ADV: I dont know....insulation to speed up warm up?????
DIS ADV: I heard stories of how they become oil soaked and catch on fire.

Yes some of the trucks did have this insulation. I believe it was only used on certain 1985-1986 trucks. And most of them that I've seen were diesel powered or large engine trucks.
Numberdummy might be able to verify the year it first started, and what it's for.
Noise dampening is my guess.

One more vote!
It might not have been nothing to him, but I took his numbers that he voluntarily looked up and took them back to my local stealership to get them to order a shift **** for my truck that they had said was "obsolete"

I know that my 85 f-250 doesn't have one. I wish there would have been one though because I had a battery explode once and the acid caused rust underneath the hood. If it had one it might not have been as bad even though I did everything to remove it it still rusted.
i agree with everyone else in saying that Bill is a great contributer always ready to help and it is definately most appreciated. Thanx Bill.

+1 for Bill's tireless assistance
Does anyone have photos of the under-hood insulator in an 80-86 Bronco or F Series?
And can anyone comment on the version you get from LMC?

Despite Bill's tireless assistance, he does make a mistake now and then.
(sigh)
For example: The applications for the hood insulators listed in post #6.
The only F series trucks of this vintage that came with a hood insulator: 1983/89 F250/350 & 1988/89 F(Super Duty) with diesel engines.
Pic: Scroll down to basic part number 16738 (A = Aerostar; B = Bronco II; R = Ranger):

Right you are, Bill.
It must be because those 80s V8 Broncos were whisper-quiet.
Thanks for checking.
