well from my own experience i used the clutch to get to first. then go with RPM's when it gets a little higher than when you would push the clutch in i would let off the throttle and move to a higher gear. Rule of thumb: Never and i mean NEVER shift down or into reverse with out the clutch. ive seen people tear gears to pieces and lock up tranny's like that. you should be fine, just take time and practice to get it down to a science
the trans has to be going the same rpms as the motor it takes practice but feather the gas while haveing light pressure on the stick and if you get it right it will slide right in
Yea, basically you have to get the RPMs just right so everything lines up, and it will just slip right in.
Shifting down is even more of a special trick. i can go from first to fifth and back to first with no clutch.
Always clutch for reverse though.
There are tricks to slowing down shifting without the clutch, but I shoudln't tell for if you screw something up, i'd feel bad.
If you had a little truck like me, I woudln' worry as much i guess. =\
haha ya just hope there is a slight hill to start a roll and it isnt so bad, other than that its really rough on components.
Hahaha. I'm talking about the foot out the door for the nudge foward and the slam.
I bypassed my clutch switch on my truck, it was giving me poor starts, I can just leave it and gear and start it now though. haha. its really nice to bypass the switch though, you can start it from the passenger side. I do it a lot. 2 times yesterday actually.
i cant say i've tried that on an OBS truck, but i had a buddies mustang that the clutch cable broke on. he was going to call a tow truck but i convinced him to let me drive it home. i had to start from a stop 4 times at red lights. no rolling starts, just from an idle smacked it into first gear. i have also been able to do it in a ZF-6 equipped truck in low gear but i've never tried it in a ZF-5.
eric- while using the clutch, take note of where the engine rpms rev up to when you are down shifting. that rpm, is where you would need to rev the engine yourself when youre not using the clutch. if you get it right, it should slip right in.
when you are upshifting, really you are just waiting for the engine to slow down to the right spot and then you push it into the next gear.
