Clearing a CEL
Had to replace the post cat o2 sensor to pass PA emissions test. i have a few weeks yet to get it retested. one mechanic said to clear the code then drive it to turn the monitors on to pass. another says after about 20 start, run, shutdown cycles, the light will go out if the problem has been solved. i have a sct x3 so i can clear it so what method would you guys use?

I'd think that once you clear it with the scan tool, you should be good to go..I've cleared codes with my scan tool, and never had a problem with the smog test!!! If you remedied the source of the code, you've cleared it out, driven awhile, you should be OK..maybe another opinion is good thing though....

The poor person's method is to disconnect the battery for half an hour or so, then connect it again. Some say leave the battery disconnected overnight. Your engine may run rough for a bit when you start it after doing this, but after a few miles the computer will relearn the proper settings and the engine will smooth out.
