Im in a rush to get my truck (1978 F-150 4x4) to the body shop but there are a few things that need to be taken care of before the body goes back on to go to the body shop.
My passenger side front cab mount bracket (its rivited to the frame) 78 F-150 4x4 is severely rusted out, and I am in need of one quickly.
So is there a source for these besides the junkyard (not exactly the easiest thing to take off of a truck with a body on it), if not is is a common part to several years of truck?
Ive looked and searched but could not find anything.
Does anyone have one in good shape they would be willing to part with, it would really help me out.
Both of mine were rusted out. The holes for the body mount bolts were about 2" in diameter. I had a shop weld in new steel and they worked fine. Only mistake was they welded it to the top of the mount when they should have welded it to the underside of the mount. It raised the front of the cab about 3/16" which meant I had to install spacers everywherre else to get the body lines to line up again. If they would have welded it to the underside then I would have only needed to spacer those mounts.
On mine I cut a peace of 3/16 steel out to fit on the bottom and welded them in and used 18 ga. for the top and used a plasma cutter to cut the holes. Looks great after some grinding and using a flaper wheel to smooth it out. Only took about an hour. Cheap and fast if you have the tools.
think i have a couple pics in my gallery on how i fixed mine. I basically had a shop make me a "dounut" out of 3/16" steel (had the inner hole of about 2" and the outside diameter about as large as the top flat part of the mount, ~ 3 1/2"? ). When I had this piece, I laid it on top of the rusty cab mount and traced around the outer edge of the "dounut" and cut out the old rust part. Then I welded the new piece back in (top and bottom) and ground flush. By doing it this way, I have no changes in cab height, it's back to stock with new metal.
Good luck!

They aren't really that easy to take of when the cab isn't on the truck. It's hard to get a grinder in at the right angle to grind off the rivet heads.
I had to do the same when I did a cab swap a couple of months ago. The ones on my 4x4 were rusted slam out, but the ones on the donor truck were in god condition.

That's by far the best way. I now own a welder and if I had to do it again that is how I would proceed. Unfortunately I didn't have that capability back then so I was at the mercy of someone else who didn't think through the process and neither did I.
Thanks for the replys, mine is pretty much rusted out enough to warrant being replaced, i possible could have used piece of it to get another fabricated but im pretty sure I weakened it substiantally cutting it off the frame.
Im not in as much of a hurry any more, I should be able to replace it while its at the body shop after talking to the guy today. I will probably get one fabricated if I cant find one. Ive got a nieghbor that says I can pull whatever parts I need off of a truck he has, but I dont want to completly tear it apart and leave him with a mess.
