Can we agree that the snow up in Canada doesnt have all the same properties as snow in say,Georgia,or Tennessee? Im not proposing that its of a different chemical composition, but simply that cold, dry snow and wet, heavy, slushy snow can be driven on differently.........

iggybob...Your right,it also depends on what is under the snow. That's what makes winter driving a challenge.... or Fun??? Colin
I agree on the snow differences, here in the mtns depending on elevation, the snow changes from light fluffy with decent traction to heavy wet and slippery as hell, sometimes, just the temp. change aroundmy house will change the snow. But depending on what you are driving across will determin things also. I have 255/85/16's TRXUS MT's on my 77 and it drives great on the roads when they are snowy, and across most anything it does well, so I agree with the tall skinny for the "majority" of it. However my Ex which weighs in about 8500# give or take, I have 315/75/16, are they wide enough to make it float,,,? hell no, so your best bet in my experience, having grown up south of KC, MO with all our ice storms and snow, and living up here in the mtns, get some chains/cables! I have seen chains in muddy sloppy snowy slush just turn and burn and pull a truck up a hill, the cables more so with the icy/hard pack stuff.
Like mentioned above 75f350 said take away the power and use 2nd gear. It like racing on a track with no traction and horsepower isn't the answer and wheelspeed. If you spin your done usually, unless you get to btm/dirt. Also their are different types of snows. Once you spin you create heat and melt snow and once you stop the snow is now ice and it just gets worse. Cables and chains are about your only choice for the vehicle. Selectable lockers are nice. My truck weighs about 6300 and then I load down with stuff have to be careful on hills and off angle situation. Air down tires to help out, tires flex and squeeze snow out of lugs also. good luck on learning a new type of bad terrain. We got 5" of snow last night.
