ok, i got in my truck last night and it felt like a diesel... so then the check engine light came on. when i got it home i started trying to diagnose the problem and i also found out just how much stronger the electronic ignitions are, and i didnt like how i found out either... but anyways i had it narrowed to the #5 cylinder. i took it into work today and they computer said cylinder 5 missfire.
so long story short, i put new plugs in it after work, and its still misfiring, and i dont know what wrong or what to do?? any ideas?? have any of you ever seen this before?? im so used to working on 351's and 400's, nothing with electrical wires everywhere
this is my only truck, so without it, im screwed : (
Switch your #5 coil over to plug 4 or 6 and see if the mis-fire follows. I eventually ended up changing all coil overs at 75000. Got rid of the mis-fire.
ok, i tried that and didnt get anything successful, something is tellin me that it must be something either with the electrical on cylinder 5 or its the injector... and of course, the intake has to hang right over that cylinder, and i cant even get close to anything while the intake hangs over that side... ugh... but thanks for the advise
I'm just guessing here but you got your first mis-fire on cylinder #5 from a code reader. Did you clear the reader before you tried for another code. Sometimes you have to kill the computer memory in the vehicle by disconnecting the battery for up to 1/2 hr. Then drive it for awhile before it sets another code.
If you have already done that then an injector would be my next guess. And your right, those intakes, at least to me, are a real PITA.
ok, well, i think i have it figured out. there had been other times when a code was thrown for a EVAP emissions leak. and i could never figure it out. well, there is a pipe that comes off the driver side exhaust manifold and it goes into a vacumm thing then into the intake. when i was checkin spark when the truck was runnin, i felt something on my hand. here there was a hair line split in this pipe, and that was throwin the codes and it was right infront of cylinder 5. so i patched it up with some famous JB weld until i can get a new part, but its running just fine now

Sounds like your EGR pipe was split, I recently had to repair this pipe as Ford no longer makes it for the Vulcan engine. This feeds recirculated ex gas to the intake at certain engine conditions (highway cruise). Could well cause a misfire or related code. My EGR tube broke at the flare joint.
