Does anyone what the injection timing numbers should be for a 2003 6.0? Today my truck began losing power on acceleration. When I connect my SCT tuner and ran the data log, the injector timing runs between 1 & 3 while accelerating slowly. When I accelerate hard or reach about 30 mph, the injection time drops to -3 to -5. The rattling that's associated with diesel engines disappears and the engine gets quiet. It will accelerate, but it is very slow. If these numbers are off, what sensors control the injection timing?
Brickie, I bought an ICP sensor (Ford REALLY likes those thongs!). I know where it is located on the engine, but do not see a way to change it without disconnecting the Y pipe and possibily having to remove the turbo. Any suggestions on how to get to it?
In the mean time, I am searching FTE for instructions on how to do this.
Get under the truckAt the back of the motor is a heat shield with three bolts in it two tens and a thirteen.Removing that heat shield gives you access to the sensor. It isnt't easy especially the first time.Once that shield is off a 1/2" drive with a 12" ext. into a swivel into a irrc 2" ext onto the socket.I find it easiest to put the socket on the sensor and then put the drive on.The socket extension should be paralell with the back of the block.Hope this helps. There is no easy way on that job.
I posted "so much for bad fuel" about a month ago.The out come was a new FICM.If you find the thread you can read the symtoms which included injectors going quiet.I would post the link but I am on dial up and its slowww...
Thanks for the replies. I hope everyone has had a great Christmas. My family has. Now, to respond to your replies.
UGA33, I changed the fuel filters first. I knew that it was time to change them, so I tried that. No luck.
Misterc, I have not explored the MAF.
Brickie, I'll search for your thread about your FICM and take a look at your symptoms. BTW, how can I check the FICM?
Jeepster1272, a breif explaination of the problem is at the beginning of this thread.
BTW, the computer is not kicking out any DTC's. I have checked several times. I have reloaded the stock tune to see if that would help. It did not. The problem has slowly gotten worse...less power, no diesel rattling. According to my SCT tuner, the boost pressure is fine. I am still curious about the infection timing going to -3 to -5 during acceleration. The timing is either off or the engine is starving for fuel.
Just thought I'd give an update on my problem. I have a high pressure oil leak. The Pump is functioning fine. The diesel mechanic is working to identify which joint is leaking.
