leveling kit and tires

I just had a 2.5" leveling kit put on my truck today and I have to say I love it. Also, I ordered four of the Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ Radials and they should be here by Christmas. I recommend this combo to anyone.

Well if you've got the money go with an 18 IMO. I just couldn't afford new wheels so I had to keep the stock ones. Looks worse but also saved me about a $1000.

I'm thinking of ditching the factory 18's when I upgrade tires. Some cheap 17's will save me a lot of money on tires. Well, maybe on the second set atleast.

a 35/12.5/18 BFG KM2 are gonna cost $350 a pop for me
a 35/12.5/17 BFG KM2 would cost $275-300 a pop for me

crap...especially since the 17" has more rubber overall...but I guess the 18" has more re-inforcment..and less demand than a 17"...still crap though.

Hmmm - that's interesting. I was going to upgrade and buy FX4 wheels from newtakeoff when I needed tires, but I might as well stick with the 17" XLT wheels if it's going to cost another $200+ for 18" tires.

Should be a good setup - mine is similar

That should look pretty good. I have the Baha ATZ LT325/50R20's with fender flares and they are pretty nice. I have pics, but don't know how to post them. I want to get a 4" lift though as the wide tires look a little squatty. The front leveling kit is nice, but it makes the rear end look like a stink bug with anything heavier than a lawn chair in the back. Will probably have to add-a-leaf or put air bags in the back.

get the FX4 rims from newtakeoff.com

they sell the rims/tires for about $800...just be sure to get the Wrangler AT/S and not the BFG Rugged Trails

For the $800 or so, you won't find a better deal. New rims + tires is a steal at that price...and the Wrangler AT/S is a decent tire. Quiet, good snow traction, decent 4x4 action...kinda slippery in the wet though...they just don't look aggressive for my purposes.

Question Shimmy in the front end

Hey, I just installed a 3'' Hell Bent steel leveling kit on my 4.2 L 2wd. Me and my dad took it out after installment and found that when hitting a hump in the pavement a shimmy would start up in the front end until we put the brakes to it. Do you think this due to lack of alignment? I wanna make sure that it isn't anything else.

17's I recomend

If you plan on ever actually going off road, a smaller rim will help out when you deflate the tires some, which can really help. Off road shops will recommend using a rim no larger dia. than more than 1/2 the diameter of the tire. I got 17's on my 05 down from 18, the cheaper cost will be worth it as I dont think you really gain much from the one inch unless your really looking for that Big rim look or maybe a little less flex for highway handling, But I dont think you would notice. I also think that with not so large a rim and more sidewall it makes the tire look a little larger. I have 35's on 15x12 inch rims on my CJ7 and it does fine, as did the 38's and 40's on past 4x4's, larger rims look great, look at it as more of a "Street Truck" thing.
