Hey all hows it going? Today when i went outside to start my 2002 7.3l diesel i encountered a strange problem. The thing will turn over, but the guages keep resetting and the truck wont start at all. It sounds like the starter is working fine, but the guages keep turning off and on while i am trying to start it. the guages appear to work fine while i am letting the glow plugs warm up, but as soon as i turn the key they start going all wonky(maxing out and going back to min) It is about -20 degrees celsuis here, but the truck has been plugged in overnight, and it has never had any trouble like this before. I am willing to provide and additional information needed and will be on here waiting patiently for a response. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Thank you!!
Although it sounds to be turning over fine you could have weak batteries. You must have a minimum of 10.5 volts while cranking. If you have a volt meter check that first. Gauges going "wonky" usually means weak batts. While hood is up make sure battery connections are clean and tight.
Does the tach move while cranking? If not suspect CPS.
Is the WTS lamp coming on? If not then the fuse for PCM power and the fuel bowl heater may be blown.
