I've come across an older home "dbx Subwoofer System" (model # db-SW 2X6). I'm thinking that I could maybe adapt the sub box for use in my Ranger. However, I'm not totally sure of what I have, so I don't quite know what I can or can't do. The original specs listed on the box are:
Recommended amplifier: 20 to 175 watts
Nominal impedence: 8.0 ohms
The box size is 18" x 12" x 8".
Here are some pictures:
Am I wasting my time? Any ideas or feedback would be great.
I think you would be. Unless you have an extended cab and don't like having a back seat. The electronics package looks like a low pass filter, basically blocking HF audio from going to the subs. Modern Amps usually have filters built in and allow for some degree of control. The box is 1cf, most subs anymore like 1cf each (10" +), so considering size and volume, you can build something better.
Does it still have the 6" subs that came in it? Is so I'm sure you could hook it up to an amp and it would work fine. If you are looking to modify the box to use some other subs then I agree with ReAX you are better off just building from scratch to match the subs you buy.

No, the original subs were no longer functionable, so I tossed them.
