its not a 351m due to the flat tops, i would bet on a 351c due to the distance from the deck to the lifters, you get to see it on the 2 picture... it could only be a 400 or 351c..

LOL, you know I have posted questions on this forum and seem to always hit the same wall. "You must have a 351M" Its as if the 351c is a mythical creature that is extinct. Any help on my original question would be helpful. And yes I know these are M heads as you can see in one of the pics. M heads are interchangeable with clevelands. Getting close to just throwing in a cheaper brand X and calling it quits. Save me from the dark side with some real answers guys.

please don't threaten us with a chevy.... thats horrible. if you have a 351c or a 351m and its bored .060 over you might have some issues to begin with.

if you are going to go with a different type of engine, a 302 will be a better way to go than an overrated sbc but i guess to each his own.

it looks like a C block from the one pic.

the block casting code from the underside rear near the oil pan gasket rail will tell exactly what block you have beyond any doubt. it'll look something like "DOAE-J" and there'll be another date code, what are they?

D2AE-CA, the date code is not really readable. Also the pistons are flat top. On the top side of the piston they are shaped like this /-----\ so it appears there is a gap between the cylinder wall and the piston in my picute when there is really very very little.

Thanks

that'd be a Cleveland block. another way to distinguish a Cleveland from the M/400's is the main bearing diameter, 2.75" for Cleveland vs 3" for M/400

Re 351 head question

Biggest issue with aussie heads is the compression ratio will be 10.5 or more .You will need very good petrol.

Drof,

FWIW, I have aussies on my 351C with KB-177 flat top pistons and a Comp Cams 270H. My compression is well over 11:1 at zero deck height. It won't run worth a da#% on 91 octane pump gas. I usually mix 5 gal of 113 unleaded race gas and 10 gal of 91, then it runs like a striped cat! Fix up your 2Vs, buy an RV cam with the money you saved and have some fun. OBTW, I'll be putting my stockers back on since I want to drive my 'Chero more than once a month.

Good luck!

The M heads interchange with 351c 2v heads but they aren't the same casting. The exhaust port on the M heads is a lot more restrictive as there is an extra water passage in the area of the valve guide.I had some D5 casting M heads next to my 351c heads and the difference was noticeable.Maybe look for some 351c 2v heads or some 400 heads made before 1975.

Yup, but thats afert 75 and there were no 351c after 74, so im guessing if there wouldve been a 351c before 75 those heads wouldve been identical to those in a 400..... In my 400 i have a 73 head and a 75 head, and yeah both are different specially in the exhaust side...

The 351c 2v's deck hight is 9.206" oposed to 10.297" on the M, also the C 2v will have a 2 cast on the head the mod. will have an M cast. I would stay w/ the 351c 2v, small cam, headers, ausi intake and a good 650 carb, that should get you around the block just fine, I'm running a 351c 2v in my 55 f100 and its just fine, as for the heads, the stock 2v heads allready have 2.05 intake and 1.65" valves same as the ausi 2v heads, the ausi 4v heads come w/ 2.19 intake and 1.71" exhaust same as our 351c 4v, the differance on the 2v's is the ausi 2v run the 4v ports w/ the 2v valves and they are alot lighter
injoy your ride.....
