Red face Tire chains for an atv

Well as a caution this may not be truck related in my case but I figured that this was the best place to ask due to the very knowledgeable folks here in the off road forum .

Anyway that being said, I plan on putting tire chains on the rear tires of my ATV for ice fishing/screwing around purposes. Since my atv is two wheel drive it needs the added traction of chains for the winter time. I have looked all around the 'net and can't find chains in my tire size, which is 20x11x9, but I can find plenty of 20x10x9 sized chains.

So will the added 1" of width really matter? I don't see how, it's only 1/2" per side. Just want a second, or third, fourth opinion .

I just don't want to order a set that doesn't fit.

My experience with chains is that you want them to wrap around the sides pretty well. I would look for one with the right width. For example: 25x11x10. Then fit them and cut off the extra length. I cut chains down with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel.

Sounds like great advice.
Is the chains primarilly for the ice? When I was ice racing quads, tire screws worked great, and I could get enough traction to pull the front wheels in the straights. It was amazing how much traction I could get with the screws.
Maybe this is an option?
Gold Ice and Holiday makes these style screws.
Cant tell you how anmazing they were. Still worked in the dirt and mud, but you dont want to drive on hard pack, or anything resemblung asphault, but I suspect that you would not want to do this waith chains either.

I ordered a set of 22x11x9 and have the grinder patiently waiting to cut some chain.

Good advice, don't ask me why I didn't think of just ordering a "longer" set and chopping them to size .

75F350, screws would work, but I don't have an extra set of tires to sacrifice, and don't want to spend the coin on an extra set either. I do see pavement a fair amount in the summer (shhhh don't tell). Good advice though, as usual. BTW I used a qoute of yours for my sig.....hope you don't mind .

No worries. That looks like something I would say, guess cuz I did actually say it, lol.

Glad you decided on the chains. Me thinks that is a better idea.
