Newbie here and I have a problem. I own a 2001, 5.4, F-250 with 180,000 miles on it. The truck vibrates only between 45-50 mph it seems like the rear end is bouncing between these speeds. Also the truck has a howling noise that starts at the same speed coming from the rear end. I guess im wondering if the carrier bearing, u joints or something from the drive line is bad and causing the noise and vibration?
The tires are 6 months old and just rotated them last week. My brakes need to be replaced pretty bad as well. Do you think that could cause vibration as well? How much of a job is it to do driveline work and what all should be replaced do you think?
This is what i found one day while i was under my truck, a balancing weight on the first driveshaft coming out of the transfercase. I had a rrrrr sound and that was the problem. Used the one cent mod to fix. Put a penny were the weight was missing and wrapped some aluminum(metal) duct tape around the driveshaft and wala, noise gone. If the noise didn't go away i woulda paid to have it balanced.
