New to Ford, looking to buy an '05 F-250, what to look for...
Hello everyone!
I am in need of a pickup for normal pickup duties and the occasional pulling of a 2 horse trailer. Never owned a Ford before but have found a great deal on a 2005 F-250 XL 4x4 (Reg. cab, long bed) Auto, 5.4 Triton.
It was previously a fleet maintained survey truck and has about 78k on it is there anything I should be on the lookout for when I check it out and drive it tomorrow? Known issues, problem areas? It's a Florida truck so no rust snow, salt, etc.
Thanks!

Get the VIN and have the Oasis report run. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...st-thread.html
Thanks!

Build date is 08/04, got the Oasis (thanks!).
Ball joints are in good shape, undercarriage is dry (pans, diffs, etc) only wetness is around the P/S cooler lines. Truck rides and drives great, A/C is cold, interior is decent. Does have a CEL - P0506 IAC low RPM and has an occasional roughness while running. I suspect carbon build-up in the IAC as the truck has been sitting. Decent tires and has a topper. Picking up as soon as the title is ready.
Then it's off to get some needed routine maintenance and a inspection by a Ford dealer.

That would be correct. There is no IAC valve on the drive-by wire system. The PCM uses the motor in the throttle body to control idle. It probably needs a new throttle body assembly. That production date will need to snap ring in the trans changed-that's a big job.The trans has to come out and be torn completely down to get to it. Make sure the price is right on it.

That's what I was thinking too, but I'm new to the drive by wire 5.4 so I hadn't actually checked yet, myself. I was thinking that with the drive by wire, the PCM could control the throttle directly, so why would they need the IAC anymore? Well there ya go...
So the code must have other meaning then. Perhaps the throttle body just needs a good cleaning. Hard to say.
I wouldn't be pulling the trigger on this one until you got some more answers.
