Question EBPV Wiring Question ...???

Anyone out there know which wire is hot and which is ground on the EBPV on a 97 PSD ? I disconnected mine because for the last week, mine wont shut off unless I run the crap out of it and keep the engine hot... of course we've had daytime highs of 10 below 0 and nights at near 30 below 0, for nearly a week here in Northern Montana. Never had any problem out of it til this week but when it decides to turn on, it's like someone crammed on the brakes pretty good. It does shut off after about 20 percent throttle or above 40 mph. If I drive about 5-10 miles it no longer comes on... but let me sit at an idle for 10 minutes in these temps... and it starts all over !!! Really sucks.
The thing is... it works SO GOOD. I'm thinking about putting a switch on the dash and using it as an exhaust brake... I know there is a guy here that had a thread on this some time back... but his method used a couple of diodes in the wiring to allow the PCM to still control the EBPV as the engine warm up device that it was designed for... I'm divorcing it from the PCM entirely... disconnect the connector where the harness is attached to the turbo pedistal...and do the re wire to a switch... looks like there is a red /gray wire and a black/gray.. maybe light purple wire... but if someone knows which is hot and which is ground.. might keep me from smoking the solonoid..

Black/Pink is the ground wire
Gray/Red is the hot side

Cut the wire with the red line on it. Supply fused/switched 12v supply to it and plug it back in. That is what I did and it worked great for braking and warming up. Just so you know when you use it as a brake it has a 3 - 4 second delay before it actuates.

Got 'er done ! Works great... only difference on my install is I had one of those lil neat connectors and termial inserts with the rubber seals in it that OEM uses ( both Case IH and JD uses those type connectors and over the years I liberated some from parts )...That way I just unplugged the factory harness and plugged my wiring in. I used an led lighted switch but, they are so bright, I used a 4k resistor soldered in the ground wire for the switch to dim that LED up some.... WORKS... whoever said that there wasnt much effect using the BPV at less than 2000 rpm is nuts... mine works really well down to around 1500 rpm, especially in the lower gears.

If i were you, i'd look into the 203* thermostat from dieselsite... Kinda sounds like either yours is stuck part way open, or it's just too effin cold to work at those temps...

Friggin cold is an understatement....we've not been above 0 here for over a week, several days the high temp has been -15, night time lows for the last week have been
-25 to -30 with windchills in the -50 area!... T Stat is brand new... the old one leaked a little internally ... new one at least lets the engine get to operating temp when going down the road... but idle it for 15 - 20 minutes and it drifts down to the cold mark again. Wife's Dodge does a little better at staying close to op temp while idling... but not a lot better.

The only way I can think of to do that is to tap into the idle validation switch (IVS) on the "go pedal" (TPS or AP)...but I'm not sure that's even do-able. Maybe one of electronic geniuses will chime in. Most guys tie it into the brake circuit IIRC.

Hmm, I test drove a truck just before I bought mine and it would work anytime the throttle was let off. I liked that and thought it was a great idea. Just like the jake on my dump and water truck I drive.

I used to rodeo up at Cherry Point... place called Tex Finney's, sure was a hoot. Was there in the early 80's and then in "The Root" for a few months in the fall of '83...I'll never forget 10/23/83 !!! Was part of ship security for CV67.... Are you a jet jockey or a wing wiper at MAW CP ?...
