Also, when you run the wire from the switch to ground, what do you use for ground? Any metal surface or a specific spot?

Thanks, reps added!

I found a handy screw on a metal surface. Done.
You could run a LED just for show, but I simply look at the dome light dimming slightly to know that the GPR is getting power to the glow plugs.
I have a similar setup on my TDI as well.

good for the unbox and install type but you could do it cheaper on your own. You could also get the switch and lights of your choice. i would say about 10-12 dollars above the cost of a relay (if you have to replace it)

No way, that is my spare and it resides in the OEM location doing nothing, waiting to be needed. Seriously, that thing is stouter than the GPR so use it if you need to. Never get stuck because of a bad GPR.

The way I have it wired, it will come on whether the ignition switch is on or not. That way I can simply hold the button down for the desired amount of time without having to turn the key.

Kwikkordead,
Ok well that sounds like an good idea if you are the only one driving your truck. With my mom, dad, and girlfriend always borrowing my truck, that won't quite work. What I want it to do is when the key is turned on, the power comes out of the computer telling it to turn on, run that through a toggle, and then on to the GPR. Do you have an idea how I would do so? Also I believe that the computer just grounds out the GPR doesn't it? I would like to use a lighted toggle put I don't believe I will be able to do so. Thanks.

Uhhh, if they cannot learn that they need to hold that button down or the engine won't start, do you really want to trust them with your truck?
.
Yes the computer grounds the small wire, and that turns on the relay.

So you think if I took the small wire off the GPR, then ran it through a toggle and back to the GPR, it would work? I know that there is two small wires on the GPR, which wire is it? Thanks

I don't think that a lighted toggle will work though. Which small wire should I run through a toggle?

Well I don't believe it will because the computer grounds the wire, it does not sent positive juice to it. I would like it to light up when the computer tells it to be on and the toggle is on.

not sure but the swiched wire would become ground then a B+ would go where normal ground for switch should be
