Hey all, how's everything? I have a 1986 F-250 HD 4x4. Right now it has the stock 285/75/R16 General M/S tires on it, and I'm loosing tread fast. Originally I had wanted to get a set of BFG MT 35x12.5's just to spice it up. However, I don't really feel like dropping $130/tire and another $150/wheel, I don't have that kind of cash flow right now. I was at the local salvage yard the other day and found an 89 F-250 4x4 that was dropped off there cause it was in a bad accident, but the owner had in the last month put on a set of 285/75/R16 BFG AT's. They are the same stock size as mine, and I love the look of the tread. The guy wanted $200 for all four, and they're like new...should I save my money from the 35's and settle for these stock size all terrain tires? Or should I wait and watch my tires wear away while I'm trying to save up for the larger MT's and wheels?
If he only wants $200 for the AT's then i would buy them until you had enough $$$ for the mud tires and rims. Of course that's just me...I've never put more than about 10,000 miles on a set of tires before get tired (no pun intended) of them and want a different tread pattern....

1995 Bronco- Eddie Bauer, 351W, E40D, too much to list....
1989 F-150- XL, 4x4, 302, M50D, much more to come...
lol, sounds good. I do think that's the best route right now, but just wanted opinions on that shidoozy. Another question, I need new shocks, and without alot of searching found the Gabriel Gas Ryder LT VST's. They're only like $25 a piece, but they seem to have good recommendations from the auto parts places I've spoken to. I know about the KYB's and Edelbrock 9000's and Rancho's, etc. etc. etc., but I mean, we're looking at $60 and up per shock for those, and I just don't want to spend that much on my toy. Are the Gabriel VST's good shocks?

If your planning on lifting your truck, or some other work that will require a shock replacement in a few years, get the cheap one's. other than that, spend the bucks now and get the Rancho shocks. I put RS5000 Rancho's on my last two 4x4's. They are worth the extra money. Plus the life time replacement!
(I dont think the RS9000 shocks are worth the extra $) If your not racing or taking your truck off of bigger jumps, (other than R/R crossings)I don't see the need.
My last set of BFG M/T lasted 26,000 miles.
My last two sets of BFG A/T ko? made it 35,000+ each. you just can't go as deep in the woods with the A/T's
