Speedo and Tach issues

Speedo and Tach issues
Hey guys, my father's 05 is having some issues with the Tach and Speedo. Here's what he's told me.
The speedo after getting on it to get on the hiway pegged itself past 100. Obviously he wasn't going that fast. He says it stays there. Then over a couple of days it will back down to say 50, then 30. He didn't say it ever came back to normal.
The Tach he said will fall to 0 and after a day will come back to normal.
Some of you know that my knowledge is with the 7.3's so this generation is not my specialty. But do this gen use a sensor on the rear axle and a cam sensor as well? I would think so, but I'm hoping you guys have a better answer.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. The truck is an 05 CC 4x4 with an auto. It's all stock, but did have a chip on it previously. His dealer made him take it off after they sold it to him and causes some issues. But they sold it to him with it on there. LOL My info is kinda limited on the truck, but if you need more specifics, I can get them. Thanks for your time guys.
