Battery Issue please help

Hey fellas,

I have recently been having issues starting my truck. I mounted a trickle charger and still plug it in yet the next morning I barely have the power to start it. I just let it sit for a half hour and went out and the gauge says i have no volts yet a volt meter on each battery readys 13 volts and it wont turn over at all...any ideas? Anything appreciated...gotta plow with her tonight!

I would say you need to pull the batteries and bring them in to be tested. Either the parts store or the dealership. Clean all the terminals and connections real well.

might start by checking all battery conections and on the other end of the cables also

Yep, new batteries are in your future. Those 13 volts you are seeing will drop when you engage your starter.

That's exactly what happened to mine. I replaced the batteries and all is good for cranking.

I didn't go with the suggested battery for the truck. I went with the biggest batteries that I could fit in the tray and still have room for the bracket. I had to spend a little more than the stock but they are a lot bigger and a lot more cold cranking amps.

Sound like the batteries are going south. Here is a little reading for you: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...y-q-and-a.html

Mine had been cranking slower and slower over the course of the past couple of months and it finally said no to me this weekend when it was 5 degrees out. 850cca interstate batts only 2 years old. I put a 15 amp charge on each batt for 60 minutes, changed out a couple of questionable terminals and cleaned the others really well. It starts like it has new batts in it now. These terminals were not very bad looking, I guess these trucks are very sensitive to any terminal corrosion as I have had many vehicles in the past that would not have been botherd by this amount of corrosion. If your batts are not to old I would at least try to clean up all terminals and put a charge on the batts, if it does not work you will not be out any money and you will want clean terminals for the new batts anyway.

Exclamation

Even though the volt meter in the truck is below 8 and the batteries are each reading 13-14 when I put the meter on? And this only happens when the motor is cold usually if I have run it then it will start up perfectly fine
???

Thanks to all for the responses I appreciate it
