Tire Pressure

I own 2000 F150 5.4L and tire size is P275/60R17 110S M+S (BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A). Ford specification inside of front drivers door for P275/60R17SL Tires, 17X7.5 rims, front at 179 kPa/26 PSI Cold, rear at 221kPa 32 PSI Cold. I am questioning if this is correct pressure settings?

Tire Pressure

The way I determine "correct" pressure is to draw a line straight across the tread. Take it for a block long ride without turning if possible. Check to see what's left on the tires, to much pressure and the line will still appear on the outside edges, to little pressure and the line will still be visable in the center of the tread. This should be done with anything you would normally carry in the vehical. This will give the longest treadlife and should give the best traction, but may cost a few 1/10 ths to a mile or so per gallon less than keeping them at max pressure, ride will be better though. Keep in mind that if you place a load in the back, you will need to adjust pressures accordingly.

Just to add-when the "correct" pressure is obtained the line will be worn evenly or completely off the tread. Usually the front will have a little more in than the back due to more weight on the front in an unloaded condition, unless you run a heavy cap/tools ect. back there.
