what is involved in changing an injector? i read on another site that you have to drain the oil out of your hpop and us a suction tool to suck the oil out of the cylinder.
Yes, you can do those things. You can also get by just putting a breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley bolt and turning the motor by hand. This will shoot most of the oil out of the cylinder. Then when you put the injector back in, remove the glow plug for that cylinder, unplug the CPS or pull the IDM fuse (I do both), place the valve cover back on the engine, or have a buddy hold a rag a couple of inches from the hole to catch the oil, and crank the starter for 10 - 15 seconds. Unplugging the CPS & IDM will keep the truck from starting, but the compression will help blow the oil out of the cylinder.
Let the starter rest for 30 seconds and then crank it for another 10 - 15 seconds. Repeat this a few times and you'll be good to go.
Just remember, the truck will take a while to get started after the change. It will smoke a bunch when it does start, and it will idle and run rough for about 30 - 50 miles until you work the air out of the oil rails.
