3/4 or 1 ton?

I bought a used 1988 ford f250 diesel. The last owner said it came from the factory with a 1 ton suspension. How do I tell if it is a 3/4 ton or 1 ton?

Thanks

The 1 ton pickups came with a Dana 60 straight axle,up front. The 3/4 ton pickups had a Dana 50 and TTB(twin traction beam) front suspension. The 3/4 tons had a snowplowing front suspension package with a host of stiffer pieces, but I'm unsure what was actually included. It could also be your F-250 had a F-350's Dana 60 axle swapped in place of the 50-series.Both trucks used a Ford 10 1/4" rear axle, but diesel-powered trucks got higher rate capacity rear springs than models that had gasoline engines.Hope this helps.

I have seen 1-ton trucks that had the IFS under it but it ws a Dana 60 IFS. The best way to find out for sure is to check the VIN # & that should give you all the info you need on the truck.

Some F250's have an extra leaf spring pack mounted about 4 inches above the regular pack. Neither end of the spring has a solid mount to the chassis; there are some rubber bumpstops that they will hit after the suspension compresses a couple inches. This is the same setup that F350's have. For some oddball reason the extra spring and the bumstops were removed from my truck before I got it, I have no idea why unless they stole it for another F250.
