I have a 2006 XL 4x4 5.4L Auto. Manual Transfer case lever. When I put it in 4 High the light does not come on. It did come on once. The transfer case does go into 4 high , just the light does not come on. On start up when all the gage lights come on it lights up then so it is not the bulb. When I go from 4H to 4L the light flashes on for a second about half way through the throw.
Where is the sensor located at for the indicator? Is it that the position indicator is out of adjustment? Does it have anything to do with the vacum do hickey on the fire wall?
Definately in 4 wheel drive. Since Friday I have been driving in snow and ice. Front and rear are turning. Just no light. It is like the switch is out of adjustment that activates the light. I can be spinning and having a good old time in 2 wheel drive. Grab the lever and pull her into 4High get traction just no light. When I stop and put it in nuetral and go for 4Low the light will come on at about the halfway point for a half second.
Is it just a switch on the transfer case or is it tied to the vacume system that engages the hubs? Not a big fan of dealers so was looking to fix myself.
Hopefully it is not it. When I turn the key on all the lights vome on in the start position. When I wiggle the transfer case lever I can make it flash. has to be the switch. At least it is engaging the 4High. Might have to wait until it warms up a little to lie on my back in the drive way. Thanks again for your response.
It's probably the solenoid. The day I picked up my truck from the dealer the 4x4 light wouldn't come on, although I knew it was going into 4x4 because I was testing it in the snow in the dealer parking lot. They changed the solenoid. I have the electronic switch to change to 4x4, but youe situation sounds like the same deal either way.
last5oh_302 is that the solenoid on the fire wall passenger side up high? The one with the TSB on it?
Thanks for the suggestion.
I can't answer that. The dealer took care of it under warranty. I didn't even get paperwork describing it. I was picking up the truck because I had just bought it, so they fired it in the garage and fixed it quickly. They told me it was the solenoid, as they suspected it was.
Is there another solenoid, other than the one on the firewall, in regards to the electronic 4x4 system? That probably was the one they changed.
