Please go easy on me....

A buddy wants to know how hard it will be to put in a *cough* sbc 350 *cough* into his 1989 f-150 two wheel drive...

I told him custom motor and trans mounts, custom drive shaft, wiring... and a chevy trans.

about right? I told him its not worth it... it will just brake down all the time, lol.

A swap that makes no sense....

My arbitrary rule of thumb on engine swaps is: "If you have to ask, you are not up to it..."

Okay, first off you need to break his kneecaps...... Seriously. Tell him he's committing murder. What's the reasoning behind him wanted the SBC in it? Is it just because he's got it? That's stupid. It will be more work than he's willing to do and he's going to wind up killing the value the truck and making it illegal for road use.

He'd be way ahead moneywise if he just threw some 5.0 Mustang parts at it.

edit:

Wait a second. Is your "buddy" you? Because in your sig, you list an F150 with a 302 EFI. The 88 and 89 could just be "tweaked" details.

Thumbs down bad idea

Jim, its a bad idea. Your guesstimation is good, but there are all sorts of unforseen problems when you start switching things between brands. If there were some gains to be had or some great reason to do this....it might be thinkaable. But the sbc is not any better of an engine than a small ford. Why not just pop a 351W in there and be happy ? Same trans and engine mounts ......easy easy easy, plus the rest of us won't put a price on your friends head, or yours for helping him.....DinosaurFan
