Fuel air lock?

OK guys on friday my 96 died on the interstate. It was up to temp and all of a sudden started to stumble then died.Had it towed to IH truck shop next to where i work.1st thought cps only a year old and new design.Went and tried starting again started up. Time lapse from tow to starting 1-2hours.Again thinking cps, left truck finished work came back bought new cps decided to head home.Didn't even get around building stumbled tried recovering then died and would not fire up.Dragged into shop changed cps,and fuel filter sat about 45 mins.Cranked while checking fuel pressure(good) started.Ok thought cps was it.Started again let run 2min stumbled and died.No restart.Thinking idm so had a sd one at home brought up and installed started ran 2-3min died.On the way up sunday stopped and described problem to a guy in Geneseo il that has a diesel shop and worked for ford shop 10yrs.He said sounds like bad injectors(340000mi)creating an air lock.Said that by draining fuel bowl while dying might help it evacuate air the continue to run.It did but doesnt let it run long unless playing with drain.DO i need new injectors???Oh yea fuel bowl is staying full so lift pump ok

That sounds like what my truck was doing when the fuel pump crapped out. It did this for about 2 weeks, pergressivly getting worse and then one day it just gave out. IIRC at first the fuel pressure was close to normal, around 60, at first. So it could just be the pump starting to go, thats just my guess but i'm sure someone else will be along with another suggestion soon.

Check engine light on?? Get a scanner on it anyway. A good scanner will point you right to the trouble.

Disconnect IPC sensor. If it stays running then our trouble is in the HPOP system. (This will set a CEL, no worry)

Check tin nut on the back of the IPR. Should be snug, don't over tighten. While there look at the wire harness too.

pulled icp while still on the hi-way,no help.wiring to ipr good condition, ipr got new o-rings one yr ago. talked to guy at shop again asked more detail about air lock. he siad compression pushing air back through worn injectors.he is pretty confident that is the issue. big problem is i have absolutly no time to investigate myself or even fix when problem identified,so either i take to him for complete diagnosis and repair possibly $2200 total with injectors or let it set for 2-3months maybe more.this guy is honest from what i hear and really decent when i deal with him on other issues. dont know what to do rack up cc or live without my truck for the winter or longer......
