I have a 2003 F150 4x4. The other day I was trying to pull my iceshack in the snow. I had it in 4H and only one rear tire and one front tire was spinning. Is this normal? Shouldn't I have posi and all 4 tires or at least the two rear and one front spin?
not with open diffs, you might have a ls in the rear but it might be open, so yeah its normal
4low wouldnt have helped much as the wheel up front and the one in the back with the least traction will still slip, 4H is a 1:1 ratio from the back of the trans to the driveshafts, low reduces it again not sure but prob about 2.7 or so to give more tq.
While it would be normal for only one to spin on the rear without an LS, shouldn't the front be locked so that both front tires should be spinning together? Stangfire mentioned that only one front was spinning??
My 2003 front tires are locked in 4x4 which is one of the reasons it tells you not to drive on dry pavement in 4x4. It hops in corners and puts extra wear on the front diff. Maybe you have a vacuum problem causing the front not to lock. Just a thought.

None of the 97-03 F-150's came with a front LS or locker.
On my 02' it's the same way and it always had one in the front and one in the rear spinning. It would be nice to have come with LS or something but they don't
Just for my own curiosity, if the front don't lock then why does it hop when you turn a corner in 4x4? I thought they both had to turn the same in the front diff.??
the front does not have a limit slip, but they do try to turn the same speed. if you had a LS unit, you would not be able to turn a corner, even with the hopping. With the LS unit in the back you have both rears turning and at least one in the front, thats 3 out of 4. Once your moving even slightly other tire up front starts pulling with a portion of the torque so there is a real benifit to haveing a 4 x 4 with LS unit in the back.
