Reverse lights

my problem is that the wires for the reverse gear sensor have become a victim of the drive-shaft. it was like that when i bought the truck so im not sure how it happened. but the wiring harness that runs down the frame rail doesnt seem to be missing any wires. i did find the black/pink wire that the Hayes book says runs to the lights, but it doesnt stop at the sensor like stated. so i have 2 wires that i can not find the rest of in the wiring harness. does anyone know where these wires did go?

or.... can i run a ignition switched positive wire from an accy. fuse block i installed under the rear seat to the reverse sensor, then run the other wire back to the lights where it originally went?

Thanks for your time

You could run the wiring yourself like you mentioned. You would think the original wiring would be running down the frame rail, but with the newer trucks, they had all sorts of gadgets like a auto dimming mirror and reverse light relays for trailer towing, so they probably ran the wire in some other harness and went up into the engine compartment. Do you have a harness that runs down the back bone of the tranny? I will have to look at my diagrams when I get time and see if they say what harness it is located in.
