Thief smashed the drivers side small window, stole my cd/stereo, tools from under the seat and tried to peel my state safety sticker...
I've replaced the window and I now have the factory radio put back in...
Problem... I keep my glove box locked... after the theft I tried to open it with the key and it will not open... I believe the thief damaged it to the point where I can not get it open with the key.
Is there anything that can be done short of tearing the box open(don't want to do it) My drivers license, and DMV papers are in there...
With out seeing it my guess is that you will need to drill out the old lock and replace it with another one. MIght save a few bucks to get one that will work from a salvage yard. Only down side is from now on the box will take its own key. I hate thieves.
I was just repairing a vehicle yesterday, it being older it had the screws on the bottom near the hinge for the door. Which makes it easy to unstick.
I think on your year vehicle it has tabs on the lower part that act as pivots. If you take two long skinny screw drivers and push inwards towards each other, you might be able to push the pivots in enough to take the glove box out by the bottom.
Think radio removal as to how it should work in pulling the bottom out.
