Plasma TV problem..

Well this week is shaping up nicely..

After being without electricity and heat for 60 hrs this past weekend, the Plasma TV decided to crap out today..

I was wondering if anyone had any repairs done on their tv's and how much they cost??

The tv is 42" LG plasma tv model 42pc1da..

I wonder if the cold for the last 60 hrs killed it??

The TV worked fine yesterday and this morning after the electricity was back on..

While my daughter was watching TV today the picture went out.. The sound still works..

I thought it was the cable box so I shut it down but that didn't help..

Repair place isn't open on Monday so I need to call tomorrow..

Anyone have any ideas??

let the TV warm up and try it again. They do not like the cold. Let it get to about 65-70 in the house and try it again.

Sounds like the plasma driver is bad. Most big screen repair shops can fix this for a lot less than replacing the tv.

Keep in mind that plasma tv's are now MUCH MUCH cheaper than when you probably got it......just remember that when you get the estimate to fix it

I realize that... I paid around $2400.0 2 1/2 - 3 years ago..

Wally world has HiDef sets starting at $699..

So as long as it's under $500.00 I'll probably repair it and hopefully get another 2-3 years..

What ever happened with getting 15-20 years out of a tv with no problems..

I guess those days are long gone..

Just for kicks -- if you haven't already -- you might try

1. Unplugging it for a while (not just power off)
2. Switching the input selector
3. Switching to a different input type if you have one.

This type of thing occasionally works on some tvs -- and it's free.

I didn't power it off by disconnecting.. I will try that..

I did switch inputs, but no help there..

My viewsonic acts up every once in a while. Unplug it for about 5 minutes and then plug it back in and all is well again.

We got a 60" big screen (came with the house because it had a custom enclosure build into the wall) repaired for $350, same problem. Wasn't plasma, but the same basic issue, the driver. Plasma and LCD all use a very high frequency driver/transformer board just prior to the final output. One smaller items like a laptop I've replaced on myself, it's a small circuit board that's simply unplugged and replaced. I got a driver on eBay for about $50, but they tend to run a lot more for TVs. The problem is you really don't want to do this yourself, because it would really stink if it turned out to be something else!

Well here is an update.

Boy I love LG..

Searched the net last night for more info on fixing this myself..

Came to the conclusion it would be easier to get a new one..

In my travels I found others who have had the same issues just after the warranty expired..

They gave a phone number for LG executive call center..

I called repairmen today and found it was going to cost $90.00 to have them tell me it was broke..

Took a chance and dialed the LG number and gave them the info. In less than 10 minutes they extended the warranty to cover this repair..
It was so easy and they were very pleasant to deal with..

So I would recommend them any day after this...

I wonder if they know there was a problem with these boards and this is their way of fixing the issue without a major recall..

What is thier slogan??????

Life's Good!

Guess so

Good job in this merry season.

Don, that was one bugger of a storm last week. I was in the Bershires and they are begging people to take away the firewood. I actually saw open burning of brush and wood along the side of the road by the state and local town to just get rid of the tons of debris.
