Why do you want to weld the EGR VALVE? Did you mean the EGR cooler block off plate? Anybody could do that with a welder, if you have the EGR cooler out.

If that is your attention ( shut the EGR valve ), I would just try to unplug it, and see if it throws a CEL. You can look up/search for EGR unplug instructions, it's the first thread in the tech folder.
You also could get a dummy valve or plug and hang the original valve on the wires, so it won't throw a code...

Mods are always a good things in mind. I like them!!!
Don't forget, that even though the ARP studs are costly, but the main and greatest mod IMO. If I can go back in time, I wouldn't think about it twice.
Since I have it, I can just push the pedal to the floor without having the tiniest fear ....

You can't really improve much with intake mods, especially if the truck not built for race. I mean over 500hp yes, but under that....
The best mod what i would get - if we stay at the "cheap" category - coolant filter from Dieselsite. No HP , but your truck will love it. And your pocket in the future....

People have welded the valve to not allow it to function, just unplugging it, it may still come open and stick open. You shouldn't throw a CEL with an 04 by disabling the EGR valve

I second dcaddi2 suggestion for the coolant filter - about $150 with the ball valves delivered to your door - Don't even hesitate on this one. I would put this at the top of your list! Next ,High idle mod - all you need is a switch that costs about $6 and some 16 gauge wire (instructions are in the Tech Folder). Fumoto oil drain valve is another good one if you do your own oil changes; costs around $28. Also, if you have your stock air intake I would put it back on and save your turbo... that can be expensive to fix.
