'75 vs '77 F250 Differences
'75 vs '77 F250 Differences
So I was pretty set on finding a '77 Highboy, and came across a '75. I know about a lot of differences between '77 and '77.5, and '77 vs. '78 & '79. Are there any differences between a '75 and '77 highboy?
The '75 has a rebuilt 460, so the engine availability options aren't a concern.
Thanks,
Chris

If you post the VIN# and the warranty plate # someone on here will be able to tell you waht originally came on your truck. Obviously on a 30 year old truck, many of those things could have been swapped out, ie. the 460 in your 4x4. Your original engine in your truck if a V8 would have probably been a 360FE. There were no FE's installed in the trucks after 1976. 77 and later would be the 351M and 400.

One of the big differences between the 75 and 77 is the front axle. The 75 will or should have drum brakes and an enclosed knuckles. The 77 has a better D44HD open knuckle disc brake front axle.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong but the biggest difference would be the front axle. The 75 would have the closed knuckle and drum brakes while a 77 would have the disc brakes.
What is the price range?

I've never driven a truck older than my '78 (I've driven '60s mustangs without power steering, but not a truck). How much difference is there between the power assist on the pre-'78s and the power steering on the '78-'79s?
Also, I'll have to do some research on the differences between open and closed knuckle, I'm assuming open knuckles are preferable, but how much difference does it really make (that is, is it a big enough deal to not pursue the truck)?
Asking price is $1150, but it's registration is currently non-op, so technically I would have to fix that before picking it up to make it street legal.....

Results for VIN#: F26YRV43638
Model Year: 75
Series: F250 - 4x4 Pickup
Engine: 8 Cyl, 360ci, 2bbl
Assembly Plant: San Jose
133 is the wheel base.
07100 is the GVWR = 7100 lbs.
a 460 didn't come in 4x4 trucks until 1983, so obviously that engine was swapped in there. the VIN decoder says 360.
never driven power steering or power assist but I'm told it's a world of difference. i.e. trying to turn the wheels with your hands or having power steering.
by the picture I'd say the color is Tan and Wimbleton White.
btw, torquemeister in your signiture it says you had a 99 F150. was it 4x4?

I wish they hadn't swapped a 460 for the 360 - my '78 has a 460 with C9 heads and is a real gashog! I'd also much rather have a 4 spd, but I won't be that picky.
My wife & I both love the color with the wimbledon white, I've never seen it that I can remember.
My '99 F150 was a 2wd. I was looking at a brand new '99 2wd or a '97 4wd, that had been owned by a heavy smoker with dogs, judging by the smell. I opted for the new truck with the warranty, and never had a single problem with it. Of course, I traded it in for my mustang after 2 1/2 years, so I wouldn't expect any problems from a Ford that young!

the drum brakes make a difference in driveability, discs take longer in a stop to heat up and fade, and drums can be really touchy. not really a huge deal though. looks decent for the price.
What is hanging down?
Front suspension close up picture - what is hanging down beside the transfer case?

Here's the interior, he says the seat is the worst part - the rest is not good but not this bad!
