I know some of you have replaced your 99-07 tailgate with the newer style 08 and up models. If anyone still has their old style one and are looking to sell it reasonably, please let me know. My neighbor has a 2001 5.4 4x4 work truck that he had let a buddy borrow. The guy was putting down mulch and backed into the top of a fire hydrant.
He had his nephew standing at the back of the truck and the kid just stood there with his hands in his pockets and watched it happen.
Teenagers...
Jason any tailgate from 99-07 F-250s will work along with 97-03 F-150 tailgates will work. Got to love people who just sit there and let things happen.
I'd be for whuppin some azz... stuff like that makes me mad. Reminds of when someone dropped a 100lb hay bale from 10 feet up on my new aftermarket tailgate on my 83 Chevy and bent the crap out of it... they did me a favor as the aftermarket stuff is junk, but I was less than pleased about it at the time. I'd only had it on there about a week!

I knew that about the 250/350/450's etc. but didn't realize the 150's from those years would work too. Thanks for the heads up Justin.
I'd say the teenager should be paying for the new tailgate. Some people just have to learn things the hard way, and when it costs big bucks, they typically don't make the same mistake twice.
I used to go to a big junkyard down on route 3 I believe, like on the way to Crofton, MD. Do you know the one I'm talking about? Big operation with multiple yards, each yard specializing in, say, foreign, domestic, trucks... Can't remember the name of it, but I can't imagine them not still being there.
I know the one you are talking about. I haven't been down that way in a while. I have a cousin that lives down there i will ask her if i can't find another one on Craigslist or ebay first. Thanks.
I have got one in SE Wisconsin in black. It is banged up, but it works just fine. (acutally, you really have to pull the handle out all the way for it to work "just fine") The POs wife thought it was in park and it was in R and she backed it into the hood of a car.
The only problem here is shipping. PM me if you think you can make it work.
Thanks for the offer. I will try and find one in a little better condition. The one he has that is banged up has the same problem, it can be made to work, but gets stuck and we have to mess with it. His work truck is pretty banged up too, so the color matching and the overall condition doesn't have to be great, but I want it to work good, or else there is no need. Thanks for the offer though Scott. I really do appreciate it.
I just didn't want to be dishonest with you on how it works. You just have to pull the lever ALL the way up for it to release. No binding or wiggling etc necessary. Let me know if you get in a bind.
That sounds like it might be an adjustment of the linkage issue. That might work. How hard would it be to package it for shipping? I've never shipped anything that big before.
