Last night it was -23 in my area with a windchill factor of -42. My F-150 fired right up. Never plugged it in tho, which I know isn't smart. Trans and steering were very, very stiff. It's so cold the heater can hardly keep up!
What kind batteries do ya'll have?
Mine's a Everstart Maxx, 850 CCA

i have always lived in kansas, and that seams to be too cold sometimes in the winter.
i moved to Pittsburgh, PA for 1.5 yrs and man that was way way way to cold for me. i don't mind the heat at all. i would be fine if it were 90 to 100 all day, but you get me in the cold, and man i just don't care for it. but atleast my truck doesn't mind!!!
We had temps around -10 the last couple days and I started three of mine.
My good 95 F-150 has always started cold exactly like it should of brand new (knock on wood...). Slower cranking, yes, but what doesn't crank slower when it's that cold? New Motorcraft battery in July.
My beater 95 has always started, but lots of times it'll sputter the first try and start and run fine the second time. I need to address some fuel issues in it though when I get time...the rear pump died last month and I'm wondering if the front is a little weak too. The no-name battery has always cranked it fine; it was new in 05 when I bought the truck.
The 94 F-150 I just bought cranks and starts great. It's got an Interstate battery, I don't know how old. The worn out 302 clatters quite a bit at first, but that's why I got the truck cheap.
Now that I'm thinking about it there was one time my truck didn't want to start. I was working nightshift and it was winter time. It must have been around 33F out. Felt that way, anyway. My truck started the first time but died. The second time I got it going I kept giving it fuel (like you would a carb'd motor). Truck ran fine afterwrds.
hahaha i didnt know it was gonna blow breakers when i plugged it in and it didnt do it right away and since my house is so old thats the only outlet i can get too from where i have to park...
i got a battery 1100 CCA worth
hey bill you should come up here and chill out for a bit...literally we hit -13C today! lol
As long as it's under 45 degrees or over 70 degrees outside, Red starts without a hitch. I figure it's just old age ... every older vehicle I've had (say '88 and down) has been exactly the same way. Temperamental in cool weather, great when it's cold, great when it's warm or hot. I dunno.
It was -5 the other night. When I went out in the morning- it turned over really slow three times, fired, turned over once more, fired, then one more turn and it was running. The original engine had a block heater but this one doesn't. I would use it mainly for the fact it will be warmed up quicker. I need to change my oil to 5-30. Its got 10-40 in it right now.
But bought one freeze plug that heater but need figure how to pry freeze plug and install on it.
Drain your rad (unless you like bathing in antifreeze!) and use a blunt punch on one edge and hit it with a hammer, you want to spin the freeze plug sideways in the hole, then if its still snug you can use pliers to pull it out. The plug over the starter is where mines installed, easy to get to.

It hasn't been too bad in da Burg yet this year. Still got the real cold stuff to come. My 300 lights right up. Grunts a bit when when it drops below 0 but it lights. The 300 in the 89 Econoline I scrapped last year would fire, stall, fire right back up then act like a carbed engine with a stuck choke. After a few minutes it would smooth out and run fine.
92 f-250 HD with a 351W and an E40D. Coldest start I had was just shy of 15 below and it started quick and strong... maybe one extra rotation before firing...
